This Emergency Response Training is for State Rural Water Association personnel.
This is not training for Operators to receive credit hours.

“All state rural water association staff are encouraged to attend, including Executive Directors.  Recent events clearly demonstrate the importance of prioritizing rural water’s ability to help our members respond to emergencies regardless of where we live.  This year’s training will include discussion about the variety of emergencies throughout the country and how each state response is similar or unique.”

Day 1 (arrival) – October 24th
Day 2 (Full Day Training) – October 25th

7:30 am — Registration

8:00 am — Welcome by NRWA ER Committee Chairs & Introductions (Kent/Shelley)

8:30 am — Panel Discussion: Creative ways to finance emergency response efforts (how got started, current status) and variations in state emergency response – what steps would state association staff take for a winter storm, fire, or hurricane, and what steps are similar vs. different (membership, funding, and political considerations)

9:45 am — Demonstrations

12:00 pm — Lunch and Learn (food and beverage provided)

1:00 pm — Demonstrations

4:00 pm — Importance of working closely with state EOC and primacy – who do you contact, how do you get resources, who do you communicate with

4:30 pm — Recap of equipment demonstrations – Review what was learned and discuss how the use of equipment may vary by region or type of event

Evening Reception – Food and beverage provided.
Day 3 (Half Day Training) – October 26th

8:00 am — Welcome by NRWA

8:15 am — Demonstrations

11:00 am — State Association Emergency Response Plans & cybersecurity training or discussion – maybe the current status, available templates, EPA Cybersecurity TA

11:30 am — Training recap and review of key points

12:00 pm — Cajun Lunch:  pork and sausage jambalaya, corn, and a roll. (To-go plates will be available for those who need to leave)

1:00 pm — Busses leave for Tallahassee (flights in/out of Tallahassee – flights recommended no earlier than 4 pm)

Demonstration Information
1 Bypass & Trash Pumps, Vacuum Units:

emergency response pumps, motors-spare-repair, may use vacuum units for LSLI

2 Large Generators:

hook-up, safety, load banking

3 Small & Mid-size Generators:

single phase or VFD for phase 3 use, PTO generators, mid-size generators with VFDs for larger applications

4 Control Panels, Transfer Switches, & Electrical Instruments:

establish a temporary panel until a new panel arrives (supply chain delays)

5 Hauling, Towing, Securement, Logistics:

include safe lifting

6 Staging Area Set-up:

communications (StarLink), drone use in ER and TA, housing, food, fuel, fuel cleaning, response support

FRWA/GRWA trailers
7 Locating Lines, Leaks, Valves & Assets:

BWN restoration priorities, repressure lines

8 RAFA/AquaHero, SCADA, Remote Control, Integration:

emergency response to normal operation utilization

  • The training cost is $150 per person
  • Purchase airline insurance in the event weather does not permit training

Tallahassee International Airport is the closest airport (approximately 30-45 minutes).
