The Hotel Bentley was constructed in 1907 by Joseph Bentley, a native of Pennsylvania who became wealthy in the lumber industry in Central Louisiana. During World War II, the United States military trained over half of a million troops in the Alexandria area. On November 15, 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. On August 1, 2012, plans were announced for local developer Michael Jenkins to renovate and reopen Hotel Bentley, with luxury condos, a 96-room hotel, meeting rooms, and a restaurant. The hotel has undergone a multi-million dollar restoration.
