Workforce Advancement Center

What: NRWA is announcing the creation of a Workforce Advancement Center, which will develop the WaterPro Apprenticeship Program in 2017, a nationally recognized standard that will be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor.  See the attached Advance Press Release.

Why: Registered Apprenticeship is a significant opportunity for State Associations and member utilities to address long-standing issues in our industry.  In the current fiscal year, USDOL will make a $90 million investment in ApprenticeshipUSA to develop the workforce.  A National Apprenticeship program will raise the bar for operators, and Rural Water can be the leader if we act quickly and together.

How: Promote this announcement widely, using social media, websites, and e-newsletters.  Some states will officially announce the news at training events.  Feel free to develop your own press release.  NRWA has good relationships with the USDOL Office of Apprenticeship, who will amplify our news using social media.

Who: The audience for this news should be your board members, system members, news media, state and federal elected officials, and agency representatives.  Agencies should include economic development agencies, USDA and state/Federal apprenticeship contacts:

When: NRWA will release this announcement on Monday, November 14 at 8:00 am CST in coordination with the US Department of Labor’s National Apprenticeship Week.

Whew!  NRWA will develop a twitter campaign using the following hashtags:

You will be able to share our social media efforts, create your own, or both.  We will send out reminders and links later this week.
